In this message, Pastor Dan leads us through part 2 of the Recovering Joy series. We’ll consider the joy that is available to those who genuinely seek God’s will.
In Matthew 2:10, our narrator leaves us with a hopeful remark regarding the magi who came to worship the newborn messiah—“they were overjoyed.” Perhaps we can take away some insight as we reflect on the source of their joy. Join us this weekend as we consider one more key to recovering joy in our lives, the way that Jesus intended.

To a child, Christmas is magical. Recall the wonder of Christmases past. Perhaps what makes those memories so special is our innocence; all was right with the world, and our experiences were fresh and new. We were full of joy. But as we grow up, somewhere along the way, we lose our sense of joy.
The true Christmas story is one of joy recovered. Jesus was born to restore joy to the world. Join us this weekend as we consider how a lifestyle of worship can help us recover the joy that Jesus intends for those he came to rescue.

"14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-- and shudder. 20 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. James 2:14-26

In this message Pastor Dan wraps up the series, “Rescue Is Coming.” And what better event to communicate the theme of rescue than Jesus’ triumph over death, sin, & hell, on the day we call Easter.
The story may be familiar to you—three days after he died on a cross and paid the penalty for our sins, Jesus came back to life. No doubt, Jesus’ original followers felt a sense of hope, upon viewing an empty grave. But have you considered what that 1 fact means for us? In this message we wrap up our look at Luke 14 and the series we’ve called The Invitation. In this series we’ve been encouraged to reflect God’s grace in the way we act towards the people outside of our “Christian bubbles.” We’ve also been reminded to Pursue Jesus rather than things that are fleeting. In this final message, we’ll revisit one final aspect of Jesus’ parable about the great banquet—our task, to invite anyone and everyone to the banquet that is the Kingdom of God.
In this parable, the Master instructs his servant to fill the house with anyone who will respond. Are we completely responsible for filling God’s house? How should we go about this task? What are the implications for Safeharbor? We’ll consider these and other questions as we take one last look at Jesus’ words in Luke 14:1-24.
If you joined us last week, you’ll remember that we began a new series called, The Invitation. This is a series about parties—the party Jesus attended the parties we throw, and the wedding supper of the Lamb. (Revelation 19:9).
Last week we focused mainly on the parties we throw and the people we invite (Luke 14:12-14). Today we’ll focus on the party we've been invited to right now, as well as the party to end all parties. Each of us has been invited; but, according to Jesus’ parable, not all will attend. Who will accept his invitation? Who's missing out; and why? We’ll consider these and other important questions this morning as we take a look at what Jesus has to say about “Excuses That Work” in Luke 14:15-24.

This is the first message from The Invitation series.

Have you thrown any good parties lately? What’s the best party you’ve ever been to? Today we begin a 3-week teaching series called The Invitation. This series is based on a parable that Jesus tells in Luke 14; it’s a parable about a party. There are a number of important lessons that we need to take away from this passage. This morning we’ll take a look at what Jesus has to say about our guest list.
That’s right; we are supposed to have a guest list. Of course, Jesus has a guest list to another party—the feast to end all feasts (Rev. 19:9). In the meantime, however, we’re supposed to be doing a lot of inviting, planning, and preparing of our own. Who’s supposed to be on our list? What are we inviting people to? What should our event look like? We’ll take a look at these and other questions today as we consider what Jesus has to say in Luke 14:13-14.
