If you joined us last week, you’ll remember that we began a new series called, The Invitation. This is a series about parties—the party Jesus attended the parties we throw, and the wedding supper of the Lamb. (Revelation 19:9).
Last week we focused mainly on the parties we throw and the people we invite (Luke 14:12-14). Today we’ll focus on the party we've been invited to right now, as well as the party to end all parties. Each of us has been invited; but, according to Jesus’ parable, not all will attend. Who will accept his invitation? Who's missing out; and why? We’ll consider these and other important questions this morning as we take a look at what Jesus has to say about “Excuses That Work” in Luke 14:15-24.

Have you thrown any good parties lately? What’s the best party you’ve ever been to? Today we begin a 3-week teaching series called The Invitation. This series is based on a parable that Jesus tells in Luke 14; it’s a parable about a party. There are a number of important lessons that we need to take away from this passage. This morning we’ll take a look at what Jesus has to say about our guest list.
That’s right; we are supposed to have a guest list. Of course, Jesus has a guest list to another party—the feast to end all feasts (Rev. 19:9). In the meantime, however, we’re supposed to be doing a lot of inviting, planning, and preparing of our own. Who’s supposed to be on our list? What are we inviting people to? What should our event look like? We’ll take a look at these and other questions today as we consider what Jesus has to say in Luke 14:13-14.
